London Policemen; “London Bobbies”
London Policemen often referred to as ‘Bobbies’ as well as ‘Coppers’ were first introduced to London in 1829. The Metropolitan Police service covers the Greater London area or 32 London Boroughs. The City of London which is not a London borough has its own Police force.
The London Bobby is as much an icon of London as its famous buildings and red double decker buses. The regular Bobby on the beat is still unarmed and friendly, sometimes on horseback, a constant assistant to London’s visitors.
London Policemen are a constant source of souvenirs as Models,Teddy Bears, Keyrings, Fridge magnets, Bottle openers, crockery as is the unique helmet on its own.
